What are the Doctor’s Credentials? Is he a board certified Physician and appropriately trained in the procedure?
The success of any cosmetic procedure is highly dependent on the knowledge and skill of the person performing it. All our surgeons are very experienced, fully qualified; accredited and have performed these procedures for many years. For further information in regards to their credentials please go to the Specialist tab
What are the risks and side effects of this procedure?
While the risks involved in most cosmetic procedures are minimal, there are risks. Potential complications will be discussed before the cosmetic procedure is scheduled.
What results can I expect?
While results depend largely on the skill and experience of the person performing the procedure, the condition of the patient’s skin as well as the patient’s age and health affect the cosmetic outcome. A plastic surgeon and or dermatologist typically tell a patient what to expect after visually examining the skin and gathering a medical history. They also can tell the patient if the procedure will deliver the desired results and if it is appropriate for the patient. Often a combination of techniques provides the best results.
Who performs the consultation, surgery and follow up visits?
At ISHC we have a care philosophy of serving our patients. Our Surgeons personally perform a thorough preoperative evaluation, often seeing patients twice before the procedure; personally perform the procedure and the follow up postoperative visits.
What is the right procedure for me?
Sometimes when we are talking to our patients, we find that they are not decided about the procedure they want to have. It comes down to doing your research, talking to your surgeon and working out the best option for you.
We at ISHC schedule very long initial consultations to understand your motivations and to discuss your goals for considering cosmetic surgery. We also encourage being prepared with questions.
How long will the results last?
Most cosmetic results are not permanent. While a patient’s lifestyle and overall health can shorten the length of time that a patient sees the results, there are general guidelines. For example a facelift tends to last about X years.
Where will the procedure be performed?
Most cosmetic procedures can be safely and effectively performed in a physician’s office, surgical suite, or our outpatient surgical centre.
Some procedures such as facelifts, breast reconstruction or Tummy tucks require a short stay in hospitals. We typically operate at the following hospitals: Kareena Private Hospital, Sydney Private Hospitals, and St George Private Hospital.
Does my age or health affect my ability to undergo cosmetic surgery?
Your chronological age is no barrier to surgery necessarily. It is more about your physical health. With any surgical procedure involving an anaesthetic, the risk goes up if you have a chronic heart condition, kidney problems or poorly controlled diabetes. Being a smoker is also a problem as healing process is slower.
This is one of the reasons why you need to have a consultation before you decide to go ahead with any procedure. During your consultation with our Doctors at ISHC we will assess your risk and make sure surgery is a safe option for you.
What follow up care is included?
Follow-up care is an important part of cosmetic surgical procedures. At ISHC all follow up visits are included in the overall cost for the procedure.
How much time will I need to take off work?
This will vary by procedure and it also depends on your individual recovery rate. For a small procedure such as an eyelid lift the time off work would be no more than a week For a more major procedures such as a general facelift or breast reconstruction the time off work would vary between two and three weeks.
